The Bibliography is a work in progress and benefits from users' feedback. Its main focus is the variety of contexts in which "Early Music" happened, with special attention to people who—because of race, gender, geographical origins, or social status—have been left out of the mainstream musicological narrative.
The priority for the Inclusive Early Music Collective is on music before 1600, in order to keep the collection manageable and user-friendly. However, given the contingency of chronological divisions on place and musical tradition, sources from as late as about 1750 may be appropriate for inclusion.
The General Interface
The IEM library is a Zotero Group library, fairly simple to navigate.
The general interface has a few elements that allow users to organize the library and search it in different ways.
At the top right of the screen is a search window, where words or phrases can be used to search the author, title, and date fields. The library can be ordered by Title, Author (creator), or date
Records
When you click on a single record Zotero visualizes the associated metadata in the right-hand pane. Under “Info,” you will find bibliographical data, n abstract when available, and a URL for all online sources; visible towards the bottom of this screen, the Extra field contains a general assessment of the item's length (short = 0-25 pages; medium = 26-49 pages; long = 50+ pages).

We have assigned tags strategically, to facilitate the selection of materials based on chronological, geographical, and musicological criteria. In addition to the common tags with time, place, personal names, musical genres, and the titles of a few individual pieces that are often taught in surveys, we have added optional tags reflecting big themes, for instance: colony (in the format colony--
Exporting Records
Zotero users are able to import our records directly into their own library. Anyone, however, can select all the records of interest and use one of the icons in the central pane above the Title column to export them to one's computer.
